19/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - In a press release published on Friday 19 September, the European association of pilots, the European Cockpit Association (ECA), criticised the “continuous - and apparently coordinated - leaking of sensitive safety information” during the inquiry into the causes of the accident of an aircraft from the Spanish airline, Spanair. The day before, the Spanish daily; El Pais, put a video of the aircraft online. The plane had crashed on 20 August on the runway of Madrid Airport, killing 150. In support of the Spanish Pilot Association (SEPLA), the ECA calls on the European authorities to take the necessary measures to prevent information leakage which “does not only violate international and European standards for accident investigations, but also compromises the independence and integrity of the Spanair investigation”.
