Jose Manuel Barroso calls for Turkish national consensus to make success of accession negotiations

Brussels, 11/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - On the second day of their visit to Turkey on Friday 11 April (see EUROPE 9640), President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso, and EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn went to Istanbul, where at a dinner organised by the Turkish foreign minister, Ali Babacan, Barroso stressed the importance of national consensus in Turkey between defenders of a secular society and supporters of greater religious freedom, in order to make a success of the EU...
