I do not know of any reasonable person who wants to close the doors of Europe to a country like Turkey. The issue is more one of defining the nature of the relations which will be established (see this column of yesterday), without forgetting the current links which already go well beyond those with any other country: the customs union, bringing with it a largely joint trade policy.
