Ankara examines idea of “Mediterranean Union” but does not want this as alternative to EU accession

Brussels, 30/05/2007 (Agence Europe) - The Turkish foreign affairs minister affirmed on Wednesday that he was examining the proposal of Nicolas Sarkozy and Romano Prodi to create a “Mediterranean Union” (EUROPE 9434) but stressed that Turkey would not agree to this being considered as an alternative to EU accession.
