Brussels, 30/05/2007 (Agence Europe) - Experts from the European Union and the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) met in Brussels on Wednesday to discuss the effects of the energy policies, recently adopted or planned in consumer countries on the future demand for oil, and, therefore, their potential impact on the level of supply and available capacity. At the 3rd EU-OPEC ministerial meeting in Brussels in June 2006, the OPEC countries expressed their concern over the long-term security of oil demand from European countries in the light of the uncertainties created by the EU's new energy policies, which aim to reduce dependence on imported hydrocarbons (see EUROPE 9206). The round table discussions on 30 May precede the 4th ministerial meeting of the EU-OPEC energy dialogue which will take place in Vienna on 21 June. Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs and German Economy Minister Michael Glos, for the German presidency, will chair discussions. (eh)
