THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/fyrom

13/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - The Council has extended until 9 February 2008 the common position on restrictive measures toward extremists in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM). The measures, which were adopted on 7 February to take effect on 10 February, aim to prevent admission onto EU territory of individuals who actively promote violent extremist activities or who take part in such activities, thus hampering the principles of stability, territorial integrity and the multi-ethnic nature of FYROM contained in the Ohrid framework agreements, and undermining and preventing the implementation of such agreements with action that runs counter to the democratic process. In the same decision, the Council updated the list of persons targeted by restrictive measures, while keeping the list secret. (aby)
