EU relaxes arms embargo

Brussels, 13/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - The arms embargo imposed on Somalia by the EU since 2002 is to be relaxed to facilitate deliveries of arms and military equipment to a future African Union (AU) mission in that country.

The EU Council decided on 12 February to amend, without debate, its common position of 2002 (2002/960/CFSP) on the arms embargo, to bring in a further exemption applicable to supplies of weapons and military equipment and technical training and assistance intended...
