22/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - A study funded by the Solvay group, which is notably a manufacturer of vaccines, has pointed out that a significant part of the population is still not covered by flu vaccinations. According to this study, only 35% of people regarded as being high risk, have been vaccinated against seasonal influenza. The press release quotes Doctor Albert Osterhaus, who criticised the low take up of anti-flu vaccines in Europe and who also pointed out that the increase in vaccine use against flu in Europe required the implementation of production capacities that could prove necessary in tackling any possible influenza pandemic. Doctor Osterhaus is the president of the European Scientific Working Group on Influenza (ESWI)), financed by the world's main vaccine producers. (oj)
