19/04/2006 (Agence Europe) - Pierre Defraigne, the director of eur-IFRI (the Brussels section of the French Institute for International Relations) says in a press release that the movement of young French people against the CPE (First Employment Contract) “must lead to a deep and just change which meets their expectations”. In an article entitled Following the failure of the CPE, a mission for Europe, the former high-ranking official at the European Commission says, “For this, an agenda covering the whole societal area is needed. This agenda traverses France and traverses Europe: it has to be the same one! This is a test of the EU-25's ability to act beyond the Lisbon Strategy”. Mr Defraigne argues for re-founding “a partnership-led view of business in Europe … and opposing it to the shareholder-led view that dominates in the US”, thereby allowing the reconciliation of French and European public opinion with market economy.
