Brussels, 19/04/2006 (Agence Europe) - An EU Civilian Instruments Workshop (CIVIL 06) is to be organised in Brussels on 19 and 20 April within the framework of the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP). The aim of the workshop, which is the first of its kind, is to examine ways to enhance rapid deployment of ESDP civilian capabilities in order to contribute to the overall rapid response capability of the EU.
The workshop will focus on: - rapidly deployable police elements, including headquarters, integrated police units (IPUs), formed police units (FPUs), specialised teams and individual police officers; - Civilian Response Teams (CRTs); - and civilian integrated missions using two or more civilian instruments (such as police and rule of law). The workshop will be open to participants from EU Member States, the European Commission and the EU Council Secretariat. Attendees from certain third states and international organisations will also be invited.
