No H5N1 in Greece but H5 detected in Canadian wild ducks - US President George Bush prepares $7 bn crash programme

Brussels, 02/11/2005 (Agence Europe) - On 29 October, the European Commission received information from the Community Reference Laboratory in Weybridge (the UK) about samples from poultry from the Inussa Islands in the Chios region of Greece which do not contain the H5N1 bird flu virus (see Europe 9051). Greece will soon be lifting the ban on the movement of poultry in the Chios area, imposed as a preventative measure while awaiting the results of a second batch of tests.
