European council and Luxembourg presidency balance sheet- British presidency programme - MEPs' terms and conditions

Brussels, 20/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - The second European Parliament plenary in the month of June will experience the transition from the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the EU and the British Presidency (which takes over on 1 July). Debate will focus on the crucial European Council of 16/17 June. The plenary will adopt a report on MEPs' terms and conditions after years of deadlock (see EUROPE No. 8970). The details:

Wednesday 22 June: - Joint discussion on report by Luxembourg Presidency and Commission and European Council of 16/17 June and Council statement on Luxembourg's six month Presidency; - Gargani Report on MEP's terms and conditions (vote on Thursday); - Cashman Report on code of conduct concerning movement of people across borders (codecision, first reading);- Klich Report on next steps of European security research (former European Research Commissioner Philippe Busquin will issue an own opinion report on the issue); - Trautmann Report on the information society; - Garriga Polledo and Jensen Report on Amending Budget No. 2/2005 (adjusting pay and pensions); - Cavada report on restrictions on individuals hampering the international community's peace process in Darfur (Sudan) and the arms embargo on the Democratic Republic of Congo; - oral question by Martin Libicki on the Lloyds case (first non-life insurance directive).

Thursday 23 June: - British Presidency presents its programme; - Votes.
