Brussels, 15/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Sunday the EU welcomed Iran's agreement to suspend most of its uranium enrichment activities, following negotiations with France, Germany and the United Kingdom, which proposed a long term cooperation agreement between the EU/Tehran in exchange (EUROPE 10 November p 7). The commitment announced in a letter to the IAEA focuses on almost all the activities linked to enrichment, stated Iranian negotiator, Hassan Rohani, to the press during the EU negotiations, which he explained would begin on 15 December. The agreement will mean that the IAEA Council of governors will not decide on 25 November in Vienna to take Iran before the UN with the aim of imposing possible sanctions on the country (as sought by the USA)
