Brussels, 29/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Friday, the Commission adopted a proposed regulation aiming to allow European producers of generic drugs to produce patented medicines for export to developing countries with insufficient production capacities. With this regulation, the EU will apply the decision by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) of 30 August 2003, by virtue of which the national authorities may grant "compulsory licences" for this production, if certain conditions are met.
