2 million euros announced for Haiti and the Dominican Republic are released

Brussels, 04/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is allocating 2 million euros of humanitarian aid to the victims of torrential rain which battered the island of Hispaniola, shared by Haiti and the Dominican Republic, on 24 May. This decision, announced the day after the natural disaster while the preliminary assessment of need was underway (see EUROPE of 28 May, p.12) has now been formalised.
