Report criticising media ownership in Italy overwhelmingly adopted - Commission called upon to propose directive on media freedom

Strasbourg, 22/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament has finally concluded its long-standing debate on media in Italy, with the overwhelming adoption (without the votes of the EPP-ED and the UEN having voted against), of the highly critical report by Dutch MEP Johanna Boogerd-Quaak. The report was approved by 237 votes in favour, 24 against and 14 abstentions.
