Commission suggests anti-dumping duty should not be applied to certain new television camera systems

Brussels, 14/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has presented to the Council a proposal of regulation aimed at amending the existing provisions that establish a definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of television camera systems from Japan (EC Regulations Nos 1015/94 and 2042/2000). These provisions exclude from the scope of the anti-dumping duty certain camera systems, representing high-end professional camera systems technically falling within the product definition of the above mentioned Regulation, but which "cannot be regarded as broadcast camera systems". Three Japanese producer-exporters (Sony Corporation, Ikegami Tsushinki Co Ltd and Matsushita) recently informed the Commission of their intention to introduce new professional camera systems onto the Community market and called on it to add these cameras and their accessories to the list appearing in the Annex to the Regulation, in order to exempt them from the application of the duty. An investigation revealed that all models concerned are to be "considered as professional camera systems which should be exempted from application of the duty". It is therefore proposed that the Council should adopt the proposal for a Council Regulation. (Text of the proposal: http: //europa.eu.int/eur-lex/en/com/pdf/2004/com2004_0231en01.pdf
