Brussels, 30/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - In Brussels, on Thursday, the European Parliament adopted a decision on the number, the responsibilities and the attribution of the Parliamentary committees, which have increased in number from seventeen to twenty. The list is as follows (changes such as splits or new groups are underlined): (1) foreign affairs (including defence), (2) development, (3) international trade, (4) budgets, (5) budgetary control, (6) economic and monetary affairs, (7) employment and social affairs, (8) environment, public health and food safety, (9) industry, research and energy, (10) internal market and consumer protection, (11) transport and tourism, (12) regional development, (13) agriculture, (14) fisheries, (15) education and culture, (16) legal affairs (legal bases, international law, commercial law, immunity, Court of Justice, etc.), (17) civil liberties, justice and home affairs (fundamental rights, free movement of persons, immigration, police and judicial cooperation, etc.), (18) constitutional affairs, (19) women's rights and gender equality, (20) petitions (including relations with the European Mediator). This decision will come into force on the first day of the first session of the next term.
