30/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - Enzo Lavarra (DS, Italian), reporter for the common market organisation (CMO) for olive oil insisted on the approval of the reform “during this term”, in particular “to avoid the difficulties of agricultural negotiations between 25 members”. The report is to be adopted on 19 February by the “agriculture” commission and in March in the plenary, in time for the Agriculture Council of 26 and 27 April. In a press release, M. Lavarra complained of an "offensive by all the Spanish members" of the parliamentary committee, who request a revision of the national quotas "in order to take account of the current production levels rather than those fixed in 1998". He claims that, as it is unrealistic to obtain an increase in resources for this cmo, a budget equal to this one would be to the detriment of Italian farmers.
