30/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - Le Monde reported on 29 January that if Jean-Pierre Jouyet (France) and Caio Koch-Weser (Germany) manage to "gather half a dozen participants" at the European Treasury Directors meeting on 30 January in Brussels, they will propose setting up a Brussels-based "European Centre of International Economics" to EU finance ministers; a sort of think-tank, suggested last year on the 40th anniversary of the Elysée Treaty. Le Monde indicated that Italy, UK, Spain and Belgium "have expressed an interest" and that "talks are ongoing with Poland", adding that Trade Commissioner "Pascal Lamy has shown interest in the project".
