Slovakia puts forward Jan Figel as Commissioner

Brussels, 28/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - Slovak prime minister Mikulas Dzurinda announced on Tuesday that the former negotiator in chief for accession negotiations, Jan Figel, was put forward to president Prodi as the first European Commissioner for Slovakia from 1 May. Mr Figel (44) was until 2002 secretary of state for foreign affairs. Only Hungary, Czech Republic and Cyprus still have to notify their choices to president Prodi (EUROPE 23 January p 4 on this subject).
