Publication of Eurydice on higher education

Brussels, 04/12/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European network, Eurydice, has just published, with the support of DG Education and Culture at the European Commission, the document, " Focus on the Structure of Higher Education in Europe (2003/04) National Trends in the Bologna Process". The main conclusion of the study are: 1) most countries have already implemented the necessary reforms of their education systems for applying the two cycle structure; 2) the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) is now operational or being introduced in all countries except Luxembourg and Portugal; 3) recent legislation introduced in the majority of countries are based on the European "diploma supplement" model. In 13 countries (French community of Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Finland, Iceland, Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania and Slovenia, it has been recommended and generally granted at the request of students and in 7 other countries (Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Estonia and from 2004/5 Poland and Slovakia) where it is produced systematically.
