Brussels, 04/12/2003 (Agence Europe) - Agreements between maritime freight companies are going to be re-examined by the Commission, indicated the "Financial Times" on Thursday. The sector currently benefits from a block exemption since 1986, and exemption that is difficult to justify today, declared the Commission, "the exemption for horizontal price-fixing and limitation of output is so generous that it has not parallel in any other sector", underlined Commissioner Monti, repeated by the British Consumers Association which said that, "We have never seen a more unbalanced and iniquitous block exemption". According to the European Liner Affairs Association, the agreements have offered a stable structure for international trade for two decades.
