David Byrne calls on EU to take on key role in strengthened international co-operation system against health threats

Brussels, 23/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is calling for the EU to play a central role in World Health Organisation (WHO) negotiations to reinforce international rules on the control of infectious diseases and other health threats. Health and Consumer Protection Commissioner David Byrne said: "Europe will be in an especially strong position to support international health co-operation if and when a European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control is established".
