29/08/2003 (Agence Europe) - According to a "flash estimate", published on Friday by Eurostat, the annual inflation rate of the euro zone was 2.1% in August 2003. In July 2003, inflation was 1.9%. Commissioner Pedro Solbes's spokesperson felt that these figures allow rumours on the subject of possible deflation in Europe to be silenced. Eurostat will publish more detailed information during the month of September.
