Benelux is not taking part at Monday's meeting in Prague on the IGC

Brussels, 29/08/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Benelux countries will not be taking part at the meeting convened for 1 September in Prague by the Czech Republic in order to organise consultation between the "small" countries of the Union of 25 (and Poland) before the Intergovernmental Conference opens in Rome on 4 October. Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg have been invited with, from among the current Member States, Austria, Ireland, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Greece and Portugal, and, from among the candidates, Poland (as a member of the Visegrad group), Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia (but not Cyprus and Malta). Participants - generally Secretaries of State - will not be adopting a common list of points to be reopened at the IGC, the Czech Republic assures, but, AFP says, diplomats from the countries invited point out that the intention is to reach an agreement on such a list.
