New deadline concerning SEB/Moulinex fixed for 25 November

Brussels, 29/08/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has announced that it has reactivated its inquiry into the impact that SEB's acquisition of the activities of its rival Moulinex will have in five Member States. The detailed investigation had been opened on 26 May following conclusions reached in April by the Court of First Instance which cancelled an earlier decision of the Commission concerning Italy, Spain, Finland, the United Kingdom and Ireland (see EUROPE of 27 May, p.12, and 4 April, p.12). The Court of First Instance considered that the European Executive had not given sufficient proof that there were no competition problems over the five national territories while validating the analysis made in nine other countries as well as referring the dossier to France, for the French aspects. In the meantime, the Commission suspended examination of this dossier on 9 July pending additional information, information that it now has and which will allow it to reactivate the procedure, the Reuters Agency states. The new buffer date for publication of its conclusions has been fixed at 25 November.
