Commission pursues eight Member States for persistent non-respect of environmental impact directive

Brussels, 24/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to pursue infringement proceedings against eight Member States (United Kingdom, France, Italy, Ireland, Spain, Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg) which, despite several calls to order, are still not abiding by the European directive on assessing the environmental impact of certain public and private projects, before they are authorised (directive 85/337/EEC, modified by directive 97/11/EC).
