Mr Schwimmer worried about lack of pluralism in Armenia

Brussels, 24/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Walter Schwimmer, has declared that he was, "disappointed and concerned" following the decision of the national Armenian radio and television Commission for not having authorised the emission of A1+ and Noyan Tapan, two independent companies. In a press statement, he declared that he was worried by the lack of pluralism in Armenia over a number of months, notably during the most recent election campaigns (Presidential and general elections which took place in February and March respectively). Mr Schwimmer warned that, "the time had come for the Armenian authorities as a whole to accept the expression of a broader range of opinions if Armenia wanted to become further integrated into Europe".
