Pöttering calls for release of Catholic priests

Brussels, 08/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - EPP-ED President at the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Pöttering has written to the Chinese Ambassador to the EU, Guan Chengyuan to ask his to send his group's request for the immediate release of the five Catholic priests arrested last Thursday without any justification, to Bejing. These arrests contradict the assurances made by China to respect religious freedom, affirmed the CDU MEP, who also pointed out that there were around 10 million Catholics...
