26/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - Eurochambres, an association of European chambers of commerce and industry, says the 25 June EU-United States summit in Washington had not made any real progress on vitally important economic issues. Eurochambres Vice-President, responsible for relations with the US, said that given the importance of EU-US relations, the stops had to be pulled out to settle key issues like GMOs, farming, US tax codes and anti-dumping measures. He regretted that the Summit, which was the ideal opportunity for making progress in this connection, had failed to do so. Eurochambres hailed the relaunch of the Transatlantic Business Dialogue but expressed concern at its bias towards big business. He called for SMEs to be fully involved in the Dialogue, given the key role such companies play in Europe (see p. 13).
