Commission refers Spain to Court of Justice for failing to comply with its decisions concerning four provinces

Brussels, 06/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to refer Spain to the Court of Justice for failing to comply with six of the seven decisions it took on July 11 2001 concerning state aid for Alava, Guipúzcoa and Vizcaya and Navarra, ruling that the aid was illegal. The decisions found that certain tax aid schemes granting tax credits and "tax holidays" did not comply with the rules on national regional aid or the rules on aid to SMEs (12 July 2001, p.11).
