Commission welcomes exemptions proposed by SEC concerning audits for non-American companies

Brussels, 10/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission welcomed the exemptions to the recent provisions on audits aimed at preventing financial scandals such as the "Enron" affair, as proposed by the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) for non-American companies. "The Commission hopes to examine these proposals in detail, but they seem to be a step in the right direction", the spokesperson for Commissioner Frits Bolkestein said on Thursday.
