In Italy, the regional banks BANCA POPOLARE DI BERGAMO (net profits of EUR 136 million in the first nine months of 2002) and BPCI - BANCA POPOLARE COMMERCIO E INDUSTRIA (net profits of EUR 4 million in first nine months of 2002) have signed a framework agreement in which they will merge, via an acquisition of BPCI by BANCA POPOLARE DI BERGAMO.
