Working group on simplification recommends reducing number of instruments and abolishing the co-operation procedure - On certain points, final report tallies with stances defended by Bourlanges in European Parliament

Brussels, 04/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - Although it does not exactly follow the same rationale, the final report of the working group on simplification, chaired by Giuliano Aamato, does in some ways resemble the report by Jean-Louis Borlanges (French, EPP) on the hierarchy of standards, adopted last week by the European Parliament's Committee on Constitutional Affairs (see yesterday's EUROPE p.4).

The group recommends only retaining four compulsory instruments:
