Towards drastic plan for recovery of cod stocks with reduction in mortality rate per catch up to 80%

Brussels, 19/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - During its meeting on Monday afternoon with the representatives of EU fisheries and shipowners, the European Commission explained the solutions envisaged for preventing a moratorium (recommended by EU scientists in the light of the conclusions of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea, ICES) on cod fishing and the fishing of associated stocks (haddock, whiting) in the North Sea.
