Sangatte will take in no more new refugees from 15 November and will close in April 2003

Brussels, 26/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Sangatte centre will not be taking in any new refugees from 15 November and plans to close in April 2003 at the latest. This was announced by the French and British Interior Ministers, Nicolas Sarkozy and David Blunkett, in Calais on Thursday. The Red Cross refugee centre has been a bone of contention between the two sides of the Channel for several years now as most asylum seekers who pass through there try to gain access to the United Kingdom...
