The German regional banks LB KIEL and HLB are preparing to merge to create one of the country's largest regional banks. LB KIEL, the country's eleventh largest bank in terms of assets, already has a 49.5% stake in HLB, thirteenth largest bank. The merger, which will create an entity with 180 bn euro in assets, will take effect before 2003.
