Parliament refuses to give emergency stance on this controversial issue

Strasbourg, 17/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - Following the recommendation of the Chairman of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, German Social Democrat Christa Randzio-Plath, the European Parliament refused, on Wednesday, to give its position according to emergency procedure on amendment of Directive 92/80 and Directive 95/59 concerning the structure and the rate of excise applicable to manufactured tobacco.
