Fortum (Finland) takeover of Birka Energi is cleared

Brussels, 11/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has given its approval of the acquisition by the Finnish company Fortum Oyj of exclusive control of Birka Energi AB, a Swedish joint venture operating in the electricity sector, and jointly owned by the town of Stockholm and Fortum. Operating in the northern region, Fortum produces, sells and distributes electricity, district heating and industrial heat and steam as well as oil and gas.
