ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) energy

US energy company ENRON is on the brink of collapse after its rival DYNEGY abandoned its plans to buy it up. If the company collapses as is widely expected, it will be the biggest bankruptcy in US history. ENRON's 2000 turnover totalled $100.8 bn. It has a global workforce of 22,000, some 5,000 of whom work in Europe.
