Brussels, 30/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - On the eve of the meeting of the Founding Council of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WAA), in Lausanne next Monday, the European Commission selected 16 new pilot projects for a total cost of EUR 2.5 million for the Community budget. This comes in addition to the three projects for which it had already decided to contribute in August, in the context of its cooperation with the WAA and the sports organisations and national institutions that implement the projects on the ground. The projects concern: - the biomedical and legal aspects of doping; - the harmonisation of laws, rules, procedures, control methods and lists of illegal substances; - the development of electronic tools for the scientific work against doping; - prevention, especially among the young, and public information on the harmful effects of doping on health; - the use of young people as ambassadors to defend healthy sport; - the noting of adverse health effects; - the ethical aspects of doping; and the fight against doping on the scale of transatlantic and Euro-Mediterranean relations.
