30/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - Adopting the report by Markus Ferber (CSU, Germany) on the most recent estimates of European Parliament income and expenditure for the 2001 financial year, the EP wanted to be able to use the margin available under Heading 5 (Administrative expenditure) in 2001 to speed up the repayments for its buildings (the LOW building in Strasbourg). The margin available totals EUR 24.8 million. In order to be able to make early repayments, the EP wants the Commission to present a Supplementary and Amending Budget (SAB) for 2001 and Michaele Schreyer has already agreed to this in fact. Parliament hopes to be able to make savings by cutting unnecessary supplementary spending, particularly from 2003 onwards, in order to pave the way for enlargement.
