Commission clears Greek telecoms joint venture between PPC (Greece) and Italian operator Wind

Brussels, 30/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission had given the go-ahead to the setting up of a joint venture between Greek electricity company Public Power Corporation SA (PPC), currently under complete control of the state, and Wind Telecomunicazioni SpA (Wind), a joint-stock company owned by Enel SpA and France Telecom. The new company will provide telecommunication services through Evergy SA, a company which has a licence to provide telecom services and which is currently controlled by PPC. The Commission has concluded that no competition concerns arise from the transaction given that neither PPC, Wind or Enel are active in the telecommunications market in Greece. The new venture will, on the contrary, provide additional telecommunications services in a market that is currently dominated by the national Greek operator, OTE.
