Commission presents amended proposal for a Directive on savings taxation, to be adopted in 2002

Brussels, 18/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission adopted an amended proposal of Directive on savings tax, which reflects the agreement reached at the Ecofin Council on 27 November 2000 after nine hours of discussion (see EUROPE of 28 November 2000. The new proposal provides for the tax administrations of Member States to automatically forward to other Member States information on savings income gained by their residents.
