Council supports opening of WTO procedure against South-Korean shipyards but remains divided over temporary aid to European yards, to be presented by Commission on Wednesday

Brussels, 16/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - EU Foreign Ministers are in favour of opening a procedure at the World Trade Organisation against "unfair" practices by South Korean shipyards, although arrangements are still to be defined. On the other hand, opinions are very divided about the setting in place of a temporary regime for supporting European shipyards, summarised Council President Louis Michel, after a debate on this subject at the General Affairs Council on Monday in Brussels.
