Brussels, 19/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - The EU Political and Security Committee held on 18 June, under the Swedish Presidency, the first European Union "workshop" on crisis management. The aim was to contribute towards the establishment of EU procedures and structures for crisis management, notably with regards to the interaction between institutional actors and the Member States indicates a Communiqué, which adds that the works concern a fictitious scenario. The same Communiqué indicates that the High Representative for CFSP, Javier Solana, who took part in this first workshop, underlines that this marks "a further step towards making the EU quickly operational, in the framework of the objectives set at the Nice and Gothenburg European Council". (The Gothenburg summit approved in particular a programme for the prevention of violent conflicts: see point 52 of the Presidency conclusions published in full in our Special Edition on 17 June on the European Council).
