Commission will closely examine planned aid to Bahia de Bizcaia power station, in Basque country

Brussels, 07/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission decided to open a formal investigation procedure against the planned aid from the Basque government in favour of the building of a combined cycle electricity production plant and a regasification plant in Bilbao. The Commission has doubts as to the justification of the plan on the regional development level.

The planned investment was notified to the Commission by the Spanish authorities last 26 January. It aims to...
