Brussels, 28/12/2000 (Agence Europe) - Last Friday, the EU Council failed to adopt the regulation proposed by the European Commission for a subsidy of EUR 135 million over three years for Turkey, contrary to what we reported in our last edition (EUROPE of 23 December, page 9). Greece opposed the grant of such aid. The Commission has proposed the aid package as a means of helping Turkey in its efforts to become a member of the European Union.
