The German group REWE (sales of USD 34 billion in 1999 with a workforce of 173,000 in 12 European countries) has bought from Italy's BANCA INTESA the Italian food shop chain STANDA. The amount of the operation, which will bcome effective on 1 January 2001, was not disclosed.
